
Surdas Jayanti
Surdas ji was born on the fifth day of Shukla Paksha of Vaishakhmonth in the year 1478 AD in Samvat 1535 in a village named 'Runkata' situated on the road of Mathura-Agra. Some scholars consider his birth place to be in avillage called 'Sihi' near Delhi.

Surdas Jayanti
Surdas ji's birth anniversary is celebrated every year on the fifth day of Shukla Paksha of Vaishakh month as Surdas Jayanti. He was a great poet of the Bhakti period. He is called the Sun of the path of devotion. Just as the Sun, being alone, provides life to all living beings, similarly Surdas ji also infused devotion in the hearts of humans. Surdas ji is considered the biggest devotee of Shri Krishna. Whenever he used to sing the songs of Lord Shri Krishna, the Lord himself used to come to listen to the songs of his plays . He was blind since birth. Sometimes he regretted his blindness that despite God coming in person, he could not see him. An open secret about him comes that Surdas ji is the incarnation of a part of Uddhav.
Early life
Surdas ji was born on the fifth day of Shukla Paksha of Vaishakh month in the year 1478 AD in Samvat 1535 in a village named 'Runkata' situated on the road of Mathura-Agra. Some scholars consider his birth place to be in a village called 'Sihi' near Delhi. His father's name was Ramdas Shashwat and mother's name was Jamunadas. Being blind from birth, realizing his family nature, he gradually developed renunciation and started living in Gaughat. After a few days, he met Mahaprabhu Vallabhacharya ji. Due to his renunciation , he used to sing poems of family's poor feelings and experience sorrow. Then Vallabhacharya ji advised him to worship Shri Krishna ji. Surdas was greatly impressed by the teachings of Vallabhacharya ji and became his disciple. While worshiping Shri Krishna, he composed 16 texts and lakhs of poems. 16 texts of ' Nagri Pracharini Sabha ' have been written by him , in addition to ' Soorasaravali ', ' Nal-Damayanti ' and ' Byahlo ' , ' Dashamskandha Tika ', ' Naglila ', ' Bhagwat ', ' Surapachisi ', ' Soorsagar Saar ' ', ' Pranpyari ', ' Soorsagar ', ' Govardhan Leela ', ' Sahitya Lahari ' etc. books are included. He has used Braj language in all his poems.
Glory of Shri Krishna
Lord Shri Krishna was pleased with his devotion and gave light to his eyes. When he saw the world, he became very disturbed because he had never seen any creature before. Due to restlessness, he said to Lord Shri Krishna, if you are really happy with my devotion, then please take back the light of my eyes. I don't want to see anyone else except you now.
That is why it is said that there is no other lover of Shri Krishna like Surdas. Who gives prosperity. The light of the eyes gives all the happiness in the world. Surdas ji gave up all pleasures and dedicated his life to Shri Krishna ji.
In 1583 AD, he left his body while worshiping Shri Radha Krishna in a village called Parsauli near Govardhan. At that time, his Guru Vallabhacharya's son Shrivitthalnath was present there.
