Ramakrishna Jayanti

Ram Krishna Paramahansa was a great thinker and saint of India. Swami Vivekananda was greatly influenced by the thoughts of Ram Krishna and worked to spread his thoughts in the world.

According to the calendar Ramakrishna Jayanti is celebrated on the second day of Shukla Paksha of Phalgun month , in which Swami Rama Krishna Paramhansa is remembered through his birth anniversary. Rama Krishna Paramahansa influenced Indian culture through his devotion , knowledge , and spiritual practice. His birth anniversary is celebrated with great pomp by devotees and supporters all over India. He was also the guru of Swami Vivekananda. Ram Krishna Paramhansa was a great devotee of Goddess Kali. He saw all women as goddesses. Ramakrishna Paramahansa was a famous 19th -century religious guru and saint , who inspired people to live a better life through his experiences and teachings in Bengal (present-day India). The wonderful stories and divine thoughts propagated by him help in purifying the minds of people.

Saint Ramakrishna Paramhamsa's parents had darshan of Lord Vishwanath (Shiva) and Mother Jagadamba even before his birth . Ramakrishna's father Mohan Chattopadhyay one day saw Lord Vishwanath in his dream asking him to build a house for him on earth. He also shared this dream with his wife Chandrakala Devi and only after this they had a child and thus Saint Ramakrishna was born.

Saint Ramakrishna Paramhansa was born on 18 February 1836. His childhood name was 'Gadadhar'. In childhood, Ramakrishna was as playful and cheerful as he was beautiful and mischievous. And he had a sweetness towards monogamous respect which remained unbroken till the end. Even the child himself did not know the powers hidden in him and no one could even imagine this. When the child turned 6 years old, he came to know about this for the first time. In the year 1842, in the month of June-July, when Ramakrishna was roaming around in the fields carrying some chivdas in the flap of his kurta, an incident happened. In the morning, when the child Gadadhar was roaming in the fields eating chivda (rice flakes), the sky was completely covered with clouds. The child kept looking at those cloudy clouds and kept eating chivda. Within no time, a line of storks as white as milk passed over him, touching the clouds. That scene was so enticing that the child lost his senses after seeing it and fell on the ground unconscious . The chivda’s scattered here and there. A stranger picked up the child Gadadhar and took him to his home. At that time, that child Gadadhar was under the control of joy and emotion . This was the first time when Gadadhar became emotional. It was only after this incident that Sri Ramakrishna had his first meeting with God through artistic experience and inner innate inspiration for beauty. Sri Ramakrishna knew all the paths to meet God like devotion, knowledge, self-control, selfless action, kindness, meditation, samadhi etc. Ramakrishna ji used to be happy seeing God in all things. Since childhood, he used to play the game of playing the role of Lord Shiva. Once on the occasion of Shivratri, he was playing the sacred role of Lord Shiva. Then Lord Shiva entered his body and tears of joy started flowing from both his eyes and due to the glory of God, Ramakrishna lost his consciousness and thus he completely attained the natural spontaneity of poetry. Had this child been a child in Europe, the harsh legal system would have sent him to a mental asylum. Such miracles were happening more and more, and they were becoming more and more emotional. Seeing such incidents, his parents became very scared, but if these incidents were not seen then the child was completely healthy. He used to make idols of Gods with his skillful hands, mythological stories were blooming in his mind and sometimes, taking the help of his mature intellect, he started discussing scriptures with great scholars. Ramakrishna was fair in complexion, had a smile on his lips, his voice was very sweet and his spirit was very clean and spacious. They used to run away secretly from school and were completely independent. In the incidents of Ramakrishna's childhood, he has given the same message that whatever form and art you have the strength and love to do, then God himself enters and completes that work.

His father died when he was seven years old. Due to lack of money his family faced difficulties for many years. His elder brother Ramkumar Chattopadhyay went to Calcutta and established a school there. His brother invited him to study there but he refused to study there due to his fickle nature and being under the influence of internal inspiration.

Darshan of Maa Kali :-

Rasmadi (A Lady) had built a temple of Kali Mata at Dakshineswar on the east coast, four miles from Calcutta. There was a need for a Brahmin to sit in the temple who could act as a priest. Then Ramkumar started working in the temple as a priest. When his elder brother died the next year, Ramakrishna took over his position. They started doing all the religious activities in that temple. Offering food to the mother, reciting puja, performing aarti etc.

Pleased with his such ritual, Mother appeared to him in person. After receiving the darshan, his mood became serious. He started trying to get darshan again but he could not get darshan. After this, he started walking like a blind man with his eyes closed. Due to their eyes being closed, they would leave the road and start walking on the thorny path . Whenever there was a ditch, he would fall there. In this way, his time started passing with great difficulty, then suddenly he felt that Mata had entered his body and he saw that Mata Kali was standing on the roof of the temple. His hair is open and there is a smile on his face. In this way the Mother appeared to him. Rama krishna had complete control over all the ways of meeting God through love, devotee-master feeling, servant feeling, mother-son feeling, husband-wife feeling etc.

Seeing their plight, his mother thought of marrying him. Then he got married to a girl named Sharadamani. Whoever looked at him with sick eyes, he used to ask him about his medicine and never refused to get treatment. When the mother thought that his emotions would collapse after marriage, he got married without any opposition. Gods resided inside them. He would immediately see the deity he meditated upon. This was possible because whenever they saw a girl, they used to meditate on goddesses like Sita, Kali, etc. and that girl appeared to them in the same form. In this way they could see the gods by looking at humans.

He had so much love for Mata Kali that once Totapuri, a follower of the 'Naga' community, told him that I will teach you Vedanta, come with me.

Then he was sitting on the steps of the temple and said that he should first ask his Goddess Mother Kali. Seeing his devotion, Totapuri was also amazed. Mother gave them permission. After receiving mother's permission, Ramakrishna ji surrendered himself at her feet. After this, Totapuri started teaching him about Brahma. Despite completely renouncing everything, he did not attain Brahma. Then he told Totapuri Guru that I cannot attain Brahma because whenever I meditate on Brahma, I only think of my Goddess Mother. Hearing his answer, Totapuri picked up a piece of glass and placed it between his eyes and asked him to concentrate on it . As soon as Ramakrishna focused his attention with his power , the beautiful form of Mother appeared in front of him , then he broke his thoughts (thoughts about the form of Mother Kali) and in this way the last obstacle to attain the knowledge of Brahma was also removed. After refutation of the thoughts, Ramakrishna ji attained samadhi there and thus he reached the supreme state of the soul. Then he attained Brahmatva. The accomplishment which Totapuri took 40 years to achieve was achieved by Ramakrishna in a single day.

Sunday, August 15, 1886 was the last day of Ramakrishna. Even till noon there was an amazing strength inside him. Despite suffering from throat pain, he talked to his disciple Narendra for 2 hours. Then suddenly he became unconscious. The disciple thought that he was dead. But after some time he became conscious again. Then his disciples started pressing his feet with the support of five pillows and Ramakrishna started chanting his mother Kali and that was his last samadhi and he had passed away. Thus, on 16 August 1886, Ramakrishna ji took leave of this world.
