Let us know how was the life of Tulsidas ji? Did he see Shri Ram? Did he meet Hanuman ji?

Life of Tulsidas ji-

Goswami Tulsidas ji was born in Rajarampur village of Chitrakoot district in Abhukta Mool Nakshatra on the seventh day of Shukla Paksha of Shravan month in Samvat 1554.

Pandrah sau chauvan vishai, Kalindi ke teer.

Shravan Shukla Saptami , Tulsi dharayo sharir.

His father Atmaram Dubey was a reputed Saryuparin Brahmin. His mother's name was Hulsi. He was born after being in the womb for twelve months. Tulsidas did not cry at the time of birth but the word 'Ram' came out of his mouth. Thirty-two teeth were present in his mouth. His body was like that of a five-year-old child. Seeing such a wonderful child, his father became frightened with the suspicion of evil and started fantasizing about him. Seeing this, Mother Hulsi was very worried. Suspecting that the child would be disloyal, she gave the child to her maid 'Chuniya' on the night of Dashami and herself departed from this world. Chuniya took the child to her in-laws' house and nurtured the child with great love. When Tulsidas was about five and a half years old, Chuniya died, now the orphan child started wandering from door to door. Seeing this, the mother of the universe Goddess Parvati felt pity on that promising child. She would go to him every day in the guise of a Brahmin and feed him with her own hands. Here, with the inspiration of Lord Shankar, Shri Narharyanand ji, the favourite disciple of Shri Anantanand ji, who lived in Ramshail, discovered this child and named him Rambola. They took him with them to Ayodhya. There, on the Friday of Panchami of Shukla Paksha of Magh month Samvat 1561, his Yagnopavit Sanskar was performed. Child Rambola chanted Gayatri Mantra without being taught. Everyone was surprised to hear this. After this, Guru Narhari Swami, after performing the five rites of Vaishnavas, initiated Ram bola into the Ram Mantra and Ram bola started studying while staying in Ayodhya. Tulsidas ji had a very sharp intellect. Whatever he heard from Gurmukh once, he remembered it forever. After that both the guru and disciple reached Sukar area. There, Narhari ji narrated Ramcharita to Tulsidas. After a few days he went to Kashi. Staying in Kashi, Tulsidas ji studied Vedas and Vedant for 15 years with Sanatan ji. Then his passion for the worldly things got awakened and he wanted to go to his native land. Taking Guru's permission, when he went to his native land, he saw that his family had been destroyed. Then, staying there, he performed Shraddha of his father etc. and while staying there, he started telling the story of Lord Ram to the people.

Wife gave devotional guidance to Tulsidas ji

In Samvat 1583, on Thursday, 13th day of Shukla Paksha of Jyeshtha month, Tulsidas ji got married to Ratnavali, beautiful daughter of Bharadwaj ji. After this he started living happily with his wife. He loved his wife Ratnavali very much. Once his wife went to her maternal home with her brother without informing him due to an emergency. When Tulsidas returned home he did not find Ratnavali, he came to know that Ratnavali had gone to her maternal home, after hearing this news he started going to his in-laws' house at night. The river was overflowing due to heavy rain, yet he did not stop and crossed the river by holding a dead body in love of his wife. When he reached there, he found the gate of the house is closed, he grabbed a snake, mistaking it for a rope and climbed up. When he reached Ratnavali, his wife rebuked him and said-

Laaj na aavat aapko, daurai ahayu sath.

Dhik dhik aise prem ko, kaha kahaun main nath.

Asthi charm may deh yah, taason aisi preeti,

Neku jo hoti raam se, to kahe bhav-bheet.

You don't feel ashamed that you came in the night, O Lord, what can I say now, I curse this kind of love. If you had even half of the attachment for God in this flesh and blood body of mine, your boat would have crossed.

Tulsidas' transformation from a householder to a monk

Tulsidas ji was completely shaken by his wife's sharp words. He did not stay there even for a moment and immediately left from there. From there Tulsidas came to Prayag. There he abandoned his worldly attire and assumed the attire of a saint. Then he reached Kashi. He had the darshan of Shri Kakbhushundi ji near Mansarovar. Tulsidas ji started telling Ramkatha in Kashi. One day he found a ghost there. Who told him the address of Hanuman ji.

How Tulsidas ji got the darshan of Shri Ram

Tulsidas ji met Hanuman ji and requested to have darshan of Shri Ram ji. Hanuman ji said that you will have darshan of Shri Ram ji in Chitrakoot. Then Tulsidas ji went to Chitrakoot. There he established his seat at Ramghat. One day he went out for Pradakshina and saw Shri Ram. They saw two very handsome princes riding on horses with bows and arrows. Tulsidas was mesmerized after seeing him but could not recognize him. When Hanuman ji came from behind and told the whole secret, Tulsidas ji felt very repentant. Then consoling Hanuman ji said that we will see him again tomorrow morning. Then on Wednesday, on Mauni Amavasya of Samvat 1607, Lord Shri Ram again appeared before him in the form of a child and started asking for sandalwood from Tulsi Das ji. Hanuman ji thought that he might get deceived again, so he took the form of a parrot and said a couplet –

Chitrakut ke ghat par bhai santan ki bheer.

Tulasidas Chandan ghise tilak det Raghuveer.

Many saints have met at the ghat (bank) of Chitrakoot. On the same ghat, Tulsidas ji is rubbing sandalwood and Lord Shri Ramchandraji is applying tilak on his own and Tulsidas ji's forehead.

Tulsidas ji became so mesmerized after seeing that amazing image that he forgot about his own body. Seeing such condition of Tulsidas ji, God took sandalwood from his hand and applied it on himself and Tulsidas' forehead and disappeared. After this, he came to Ayodhya after taking permission from Hanuman ji. In those days there was Magh Mela in Prayag. He stayed there for a few days. From there he went to Kashi and stayed in a Brahmin's house at Prahladghat and he started composing poetry in Sanskrit. But whatever poems he composed during the day would disappear at night. This incident continued and then on the eighth day, Lord Shiva appeared in Tulsidas ji's dream and said - You go and live in Ayodhya and compose poetry in Hindi. With my blessings your poetry will be as fruitful as Samveda. After getting the permission of Lord Shiva, Tulsidas went from Kashi to Ayodhya.

Composition of Shri Ramcharitmanas

In Samvat 1631, Tulsidas ji started composing Shri Ramcharitmanas. Completed the book in 2 years 7 months 26 days. Completed all seven Kandas in the Shukla Paksha of Margashirsha of Samvat 1633. After this he went to Kashi. There he narrated Ramcharitmanas to Lord Vishwanath and Mata Annapurna. The book was kept in the temple at night. When the curtain was opened in the morning, 'Satyam Shivam Sundaram' was found written on it.

When Tulsidas ji's critics came to know about this, they became jealous and due to jealousy, the critics conspired several times to steal the book of Ramcharitmanas but they failed. After this Tulsidas ji started living in Assi Ghat. One day at night, Kaal came to him in the form of an idol and started troubling him. Then Goswami meditated on Hanuman ji, Hanuman ji said to him to compose verses of Vinay;

Then he wrote ‘Vinay Patrika’ and dedicated it at the feet of God. Shri Ram made Tulsidas fearless by signing them.

On Saturday, on the third day of Krishna Paksha of Shravan month of Samvat 1680, Goswami left his body while saying 'Ram-Ram'.

Sanvant solah sau asi, Asi gang ke teer.

Shravan krishna teej shani, Tulasi tajyo sarir.
