In Vedic astrology, studying planetary transit is said to be one of the most critical means of analysing changes and events that take place in a human's life. When a planet is moving from one zodiac sign to another in its normal direct course, it is known as a transit. But when the same planet fails to take its normal direct course and seems to go into reverse in the sky, this extraordinary state is referred to as retrograde transit.
Retrograde planets are often believed to create unfavourable or negative effects, which may lead to fear and confusion. However, a deeper astrological study reveals that this common belief is only a misunderstanding. In truth, retrograde planets provide us with the opportunity to re-examine certain aspects of life, reflect on mistakes, and correct them. This article explains what retrograde transit is, why it occurs, and how it deeply and broadly influences various areas of life.
In astrology, when the movement of a planet appears to be reversed, it is called a retrograde planet, and this condition is known as retrograde transit. In reality, the planet does not change its actual direction; rather, when faster-moving planets overtake slower-moving ones, those slower planets seem to move backward from the Earth’s perspective. This apparent backward motion is called retrograde motion or retrograde transit.
This phenomenon is commonly observed in Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn. Retrograde transits are considered very significant in astrology because during this phase, planets give results that are different from their normal influence and have a special impact on an individual’s life circumstances, decisions, and outcomes.
