Fasting story of Kamada Ekadashi

In ancient times, there was a beautiful city named Nagpur, where palaces of gold were built. In that city, great snakes like Pundarika etc. used to reside. A snake named Pundarika used to rule there in those days. Gandharvas, Kinnars and Apsaras also used to reside and visit that city. There was a great Apsara, whose name was Lalita. A Gandharva named Lalit was also with him. Both of them lived as husband and wife and both were suffering from mutual lust. The idol of her husband always resided in Lalita's heart and the beautiful Lalita always resided in Lalit's heart.

Once upon a time, Nagraj Pundarik was entertaining himself while sitting in the royal court. At that time Lalit's song was being played. But his beloved Lalita was not with him. While singing he remembered Lalita. Hence the movement of his legs stopped and his tongue started stuttering. Karkotaka, the best among the serpents, came to know about the anguish in Lalit's mind, so he informed King Pundarika about the halt in the movement of his legs and the error in his singing. Hearing Kakortak's words, Nagraj Pundarik's eyes turned red with anger. While singing, he cursed the lustful Lalit, you got under the control of your wife even while singing in front of me, you will become a demon. As soon as Maharaj Pundarik said this, he became a Gandharva demon. Lalita was very worried after seeing the monstrous figure of her husband. She started suffering from great sorrow. Started thinking, what should I do? Where should I go? My husband is suffering from sin. Crying, she started wandering behind her husband in the dense forests. He saw a beautiful ashram in the forest, where a peaceful monk was sitting. He had no enmity with any creature. Lalita quickly went there and bowed to the sage and stood in front of him. The sage was very kind. Seeing that sad girl he said like this - Who are you? Where did you come here from? Tell me the truth. Lalita said - Mahamune, there is a Gandharva named Veerdhanva. I am the daughter of the same Mahatma. My name is Lalita. My husband has become a demon because of his sins. I am not relieved to see him in this condition. Tell me what my duty is at this time. Preach the virtue by which my husband can get rid of the demonic feeling. The sage said - At this time, it is the Ekadashi date called Kamada in the Shukla Paksha of Chaitra month, which is the best and removes all sins. You observe the fast for the same and give the virtue of this fast to your husband. By giving good deeds, his curse will be removed within a moment. Rajan! Lalita felt very happy after hearing these words of the sage. After fasting on Ekadashi, on the day of Dwadashi, near that Maharishi, she said this word for the salvation of her husband in front of Lord Vasudev - May the demonic spirit of my husband be removed due to the virtue of the virtue that I have observed on this Kamada Ekadashi. Vashishtha ji says – As soon as Lalita said this, Lalit's sin was washed away. He assumed a divine body. The demonic feeling went away and the Gandharva gem was obtained again. Both the husband and wife, under the influence of Kamada, assumed a more beautiful form than before and were mounted on the plane and became extremely beautiful. Knowing this, the fast of this Ekadashi should be observed diligently. I have described this fast before you for the benefit of the people. Kamada Ekadashi is going to destroy the sins of brahmhatya, vampirism etc. Rajan! By reading and listening to it one gets the results of Vajpayee Yagya.

Worship method of Kamada Ekadashi

Rajendra! Listen, I will tell you the auspicious method of this fast, take bath in the morning with a devotional mind on the auspicious day of Dashami in the Shukla Paksha of Chaitra month. Then take a bath in the afternoon, concentrate your mind, eat one meal at a time and sleep on the ground at the end of the night, at the end of the night when there is a clear morning, perform daily rituals on the day of Ekadashi and take a bath. After this, follow the rules of fasting by reciting the following mantra with devotion -

Adya sthitva niraharah sarvabhogavivarjitah.

Shvo Bhokshaye Pundarikaksha Sharanam me Bhavachyut.

' Lotus Nayan Lord, Narayan! Today I will abstain from all pleasures and eat food tomorrow. Achyut! You give me shelter.

'By following the rules, in the afternoon time, to please the ancestors, perform Shraddha in front of Shalagram-Shila and after honouring the Brahmins with Dakshina, feed them. A learned man should smell the grains given to the ancestors and feed them to the cow. Then worship Lord Hari Kesh with incense and scent etc. and stay awake near him at night. After that, when the morning comes, worship Shri Hari with devotion again on the day of Dwadashi. After that, after serving food to the Brahmins, eat silently along with your family members.
