The Namak Chamak Abhishek Puja is a supreme ritual. It is considered the best among all Anushthan (Ritual) traditions in Sanatan Dharma. Lord Shiva is bathed with roots, tubers, flowers, and sacred offerings, along with the five precious gems, during the Rudrabhishek Puja. Due to the frequent use of the word "Namah" in the mantras of the fifth chapter of the Rudra Ashtadhyayi, this chapter is called the Namakadhyay. This chapter begins with the word “Namaste.” The fifth chapter of Rudra Ashtadhyayi contains 66 mantras. Scholars call this chapter the principal chapter as well as the “Shatrudriya” chapter. The mantras in this chapter describe hundreds of forms of Lord Rudra. Similarly, in the eighth chapter, the letters “Cha” and “Ma” are repeatedly used, so this chapter is called the Chamakadhyay.

Bathing Lord Shiva by chanting the fifth and eighth chapters of Rudra Ashtadhyayi eleven times is called Namak- Chamak Rudrabhishek .

To fulfill all desires, worshipping only Sadashiva Rudra makes all the gods automatically pleased.

In the Puranas, while describing the greatness of this ritual, it is even said that a person who continuously engages in such rituals becomes free from sins as severe as Brahmahatya (the sin of killing a Brahmin). Such a devotee comes under the protection of Lord Shiva and attains a state of eternal liberation, never to be bound again. The individual attains spiritual success equivalent to the Ati Rudra Mahayagy a.

Method of Namak- Chamak Rudrabhishek Anushthan

The Namak Chamak ritual is performed according to a prescribed procedure. First, the practitioner should take a bath, wear clean clothes, and with a pure mind, establish the Shivling and make a solemn vow. After this, the Shivling is bathed (Abhishek) with Panchamrit (a mixture of five sacred substances), Gangajal (holy water from the Ganges), Bel leaves, Datura, black sesame seeds, and salt while chanting the mantra "Om Namah Shivaya."

In the Namak Chamak ritual, the fifth chapter of the Rudra Ashtadhyayi is chanted 11 times, and with each repetition, some mantras from the eighth chapter are also recited. Along with the chanting of mantras, Lord Shiva is bathed with various sacred substances. This ritual is considered very supreme and undoubtedly fruitful.

There is a specific scriptural procedure for the repetitions involving the fifth and eighth chapters. Therefore, the practitioner should have this ritual performed by a ritual expert or Acharya to ensure swift and definite results. It is considered best to complete at least 121 repetitions of this ritual under the guidance of an Acharya.
