What is Chandra Darshan?

Chandra Darshan refers to the traditional practice of sighting the Moon after Amavasya (new moon). After Amavasya, Chandra Darshan is observed on the day (Pratipada or Dwitiya) when the Moon becomes visible in the evening.

In Sanatan Dharma, the Moon holds great spiritual importance, and its first sighting is considered highly auspicious.

On this day, devotees worship Lord Chandra with devotion and faith. It is believed that observing the Moon on this occasion brings good fortune, prosperity, and positive energy into one’s life.

Worship Method

The worship method for Chandra Darshan should be performed according to your customs and traditions, as there is no strict procedure to follow.

First, choose the time of the moonrise at night, which can be confirmed by checking the Panchang. Bathe and wear clean, pure clothes. In a peaceful spot, place an idol or picture of Lord Chandra (the Moon) on a white cloth.

For the worship, gather pure water, cow's milk, kheer (a sweet rice pudding), incense, a lamp, and white flowers. Purify the worship area with Gangajal, and while keeping your resolve in mind, begin the ritual.

First, offer flowers, water, and milk to Lord Chandra and place the kheer in front of him. Then, according to your customs and devotion, worship Lord Chandra while meditating on his calm and serene form.

After the puja, light incense and a ghee lamp, perform the aarti, and offer the kheer as prasad, distributing it to everyone. Finally, pray to Lord Chandra for tranquility, peace, and prosperity in life, asking for mental balance and the receipt of positive energy.
