Puja Vidhi and Significance of Akshaya Tritiya

In the Matsya Purana, Lord Shiva explained the method and significance of the Akshaya Tritiya Vrat to Narada Ji when asked about it. It is described as follows:

Lord Shiva said, “O Narada! Akshaya Tritiya fulfills all desires. On this day, the merit of charity, Havan and Japa becomes Akshaya. Those who observe a Vrat or fast on Tritiya Tithi of Shukla Paksha in the month of Vaishakha receive imperishable merit from all their good deeds. If this Tritiya falls under Krittika Nakshatra, it is considered especially worthy of worship.

The children of those men or women who observe this Vrat are said to be blessed with good qualities. On Akshaya Tritiya, Lord Madhusudan Vishnu is worshipped with Akshata, which is one of the reasons this day is known as Akshaya Tritiya.

People should bathe on this day using water containing Akshata and offer Akshata to Lord Vishnu's idol. They should also donate pure Sattu along with Akshata to Brahmins. O Narada! A man or woman who follows these practices becomes worthy of receiving Akshaya merit.

A person who observes even one Tritiya Vrat according to the above-mentioned method is said to receive the merit of observing all Tritiya Vrats. A person who fasts on this Tritiya Tithi and worships Lord Vishnu properly is believed to receive the merit of a Rajasuya Yajna and ultimately attain an elevated spiritual state, that is, Moksha.”
