Tailang Swami Jayanti

Tailang Swami ji was born in the month of January in 1607 AD in a village named Holiya in Visakhapatnam, South India. His father's name was Narasimha and mother's name was Vidyavati. Vidyavati was a devotee of Shiva. Tailang Swami ji was born only by the grace of Lord Shiva, hence he is considered to be the incarnation of Lord Shiva. Due to the blessings of Lord Shiva, Vidyavati named her son 'Shivram' and the father named him Tailangdhar as per the family tradition. The second wife of Narasimha Zamindar also gave birth to a beautiful child. That child's name was Shridhar. In 1647 AD, when Shivram (Tailangdhar) was 40 years old, his father Narasimha died. Later, in 1657 AD, his mother Vidyavati also died. After lighting the funeral pyre of Mata, everyone started going home one by one but Shivram remained sitting there. Shivram was so shocked by his mother's death that he used to sit in the crematorium wrapped in the ashes of the pyre and would sleep there. His brother Shri Dhar used to bring food for him every day.

In this way Shivram continued doing sadhana as per his mother's instructions for about 20 years because his mother had told him that one day your real Guru will come to you and accept you. According to the statement of Shivram's mother, in 1679 AD, a saint came to him. He was living in Patiala, Punjab, his name was Bhagirathi Swami. Shivram accepted him as his real guru. In 1685 AD, Bhagirathi gave the Beej Mantra to Shivram. After initiation, he was named Ganpati Maharaj. Ganpati Maharaj had attained complete knowledge after 10 years of penance. In 1695 AD, Swami Bhagirathi went to his Anantdham. After his departure, Ganpati ji started his pilgrimage. He reached Rameshwar Dham in the month of Kartik in 1697 AD. Ganpati Swami's heart was filled with joy as soon as he entered this temple associated with the name of Shri Ramchandra.

Although many miracles of Tailang Swami ji are heard, but here is the description of an incident which is extremely surprising: -

One day Swamiji was sitting quietly on the bank of the river. Some people were going towards home after taking bath in the same river. Suddenly a strong wind started blowing. Dust started flying due to strong wind and within some time it started raining heavily. The people present on the river bank took their belongings and moved towards a safe place.

A person named Ram Taran Bhattacharya, who was well acquainted with Swamiji, went to Swamiji and said – Swamiji, why are you getting wet in the rain, let us sit in the shop.

Tailanga Swami was sitting in Padmasana on the sand. He said--"There is no need to worry about me. I am not feeling any pain. I am sitting here for an important work. It is not possible to go right now.” Now you can go.

Ram Taran was not able to understand what work was necessary in this terrible storm, then Swamiji pointed towards the river and said - Look over there, a boat is coming on which some passengers are sitting. Boat is going to drown. They have to be saved from untimely death.

Ram Taran saw that in the distance a boat full of passengers was shaking badly due to the waves. But he could not understand how Swamiji would save the passengers sitting here if the boat sank. Out of curiosity he stopped to look and kept getting drenched in the rain. Suddenly he saw that the boat had sunk. Here Swami ji was seen missing from his place. Within a few moments he was astonished by the sight he saw. He saw that same boat full of passengers had come above the water. Swami ji was seen sitting at one end of the boat.

Slowly the boat reached the ghat. All the passengers bowed to Swamiji and went away. Ram Taran held Swamiji's feet and said - Maharaj, how did you do this miracle? How did you know that the boat was going to sink, and you suddenly disappeared from your seat and came to the boat. How did this happen?

Swami said- Anyone can do this work. For this only strong will power is required which is achieved only by the grace of God. I do not do anything. A feeling of saving them arose in my mind, God himself did this work through me, what is surprising in this? This was not in the sense of Ram Taran. He imagined that Swamiji must be some supernatural man. After this incident, Ram Taran started serving tailang swami.
