Before telling the story, I am posing some questions, after reading the entire story you will get answers to all the questions, which is verified from Brahma vaivarta Purana.
How was Narad ji born? Why did Brahma ji curse Narad ji? Why is Lord Brahma not worshipped? Was Narad ji married? If yes, then what was the name of his wife? How did Narad ji attain the knowledge of Brahma?
Birth story of Narad ji
At that time when Lord Brahma and Savitri were creating the universe. Four princes were born from the mind of Lord Brahma, the first of them was Sanak, the second was Sanandan, the third was Sanatan and the fourth was Sanatkumar. After this, from the mouth of Brahma ji, a Kumar with radiance like gold was born whose name was Swayambhu Manu. His wife was also with him. Whose name was Shatarupa. She was very beautiful. Brahma ji with great joy asked all his sons to create the universe, but all of them were devotees of Shri Krishna, hence they did not want to be tied in worldly bondage, hence those sons refused Brahma ji to create the universe and all the sons set out to do penance. Lord Brahma got very angry. Again, Brahma ji created seven sages, among them Narad ji was born from Brahma ji's throat. The Creator ordered these sons to create universe. After listening to his father, Narad ji said to him.
Narad said- Father! First call the eldest sons like Sanak, Sanandan etc. and marry them. Then ask us to do the same. When you have put them in penance, then why are you putting us in the bondage of the world? How sad it is that God's wisdom is being received by contrary sentiments. father! To one son you have given the task of penance which is better than nectar and to another you are giving enjoyment of sensual pleasures which are worse than poison.
Who would leave the service of Shri Krishna, which is more precious than nectar, and taste the poison? The subject is as mortal, insignificant, false and destructive as a dream. Narad ji became silent after saying such a thing in front of Brahma ji.
Hearing his words, Lord Brahma became furious with anger. His face turned red, and his lips started twitching. He cursed his son and spoke.
Brahma ji said- Narad! Your knowledge will vanish due to my curse. You will become the game deer of lustful people. You will be the husband of fifty women and at that time you will be famous by the name 'Upbarhan'. After living with those lustful people for many years, then due to my curse you will become the son of a slave. Son! Thereafter, by associating with Vaishnavas and eating their food, you will again receive the blessings of Shri Krishna and become established as my son. At that time, I will again impart divine and ancient knowledge to you.
Hearing the curse, Narad ji said that you have cursed me without any reason, so it would not be unfair if I also curse you. Due to my curse, your mantras including Kavach, Stotra and Pooja will definitely disappear from the entire world. father! Until three Kalpa’s pass, may you remain unworshipped in all three worlds. Prajapati Brahma himself became unworshipable due to the curse of his son Narada.
According to the curse, Narad ji became the son of Gandharva Raj, and his name was 'Upbarhan'. He was extremely beautiful and put thousands of Kamadevas to shame. He was married to 50 prostitutes. He continued to travel with them for many ages. One day he went to Lord Brahma's place and started praising Shri Hari there. Seeing an Apsara named Rambha dancing, lust arose in Upbarhan's mind, and his mind got distracted. This made him laugh lot and Brahma ji cursed him and said – You leave the Gandharva body and attain Shudra yoni. Then in due course of time you will become my son. Due to the curse of Lord Brahma, Upbarhan gave up his body through Yoga Dharana.
Seeing this, his beloved queen Malavati went to him and hugged him and started mourning. With crying, she asked Lord Brahma to give life to her husband. Saying this she fainted right there.
As soon as she regained consciousness, she started praising the virtues of her husband and got ready to curse all the gods with anger. To save themselves from the danger of curse, all the gods took refuge in Lord Vishnu. Then Shri Hari disguised himself as a Brahmin and brought her husband Upbarhan back to life. After this both remained together for many Kalpas.
When the time came, that scholar Gandharva (Upabarhan) sacrificed his life due to the curse of Lord Brahma and was born from the womb of Kalavati, the wife of Gop raj Drumil. Gop raj went to Badrikashram and left his body with the power of yoga and went to Vaikuntha Dham by plane. Kalavati drowned in grief. Seeing her in sorrow, a kind Brahmin took her to his home, calling her mother. Sadhvi Kalavati, staying at the Brahmin's house, gave birth to a great son and named that son Narad. The Brahmin used to take care of that Gopi along with his son like his own daughter. Meanwhile, there were some very bright Brahmins who looked like a five-year-old child. Came to that Brahmin's house. The Grahastha Brahmin made him drink water. They were given tubers, roots and fruits etc. in their food. That baby ate their food. The fourth Brahmin among the Brahmins who had come gave the mantra to the child (Narad) to chant Shri Hari. One day, when Kalavati was going on the way, she was bitten by a snake and taking the name of Shri Hari, she left her body and boarded a plane and went to Vaikuntha Dham. After this, Narad ji started chanting Shri Hari under a tree and then suddenly he got a glimpse of Shri Hari. Seeing this, he repeatedly focused his mind on Shri Hari but was not able to see him. Then he started crying while sitting there. As soon as he started crying, a voice from the sky said, O child! You will not be able to see Shri Hari in this body. Hearing this the child became happy and started meditating on Shri Hari and left his body voluntarily. In this way the curse given by Brahma ji was also fulfilled and Narad ji also gained the knowledge of Brahma. Apart from this, there are other popular stories of Narad ji which are also mentioned in Ramayana and Ramcharitmanas.
