On the full moon day of Phalgun month, the wife of Lord Vishnu, Shri Lakshmi ji appeared from the churning of the ocean. Shri Lakshmi ji herself is also Mahamaya. As soon as she appeared, all the deities and demons got affected by the severe illusion and a war broke out among them to get her. Mahavishnu, who is Mayapati himself, reached there to marry the Goddess Lakshmi. All the deities and demons kept looking at him due to Maya and Mahalakshmi put a garland around Vishnu ji's neck and went to Vaikuntha.

Story
Rishi Durvasa, an incarnation of Shri Mahadev Ji, was wandering on earth. While roaming around, he saw a divine garland of Santanka flowers in the hands of a deity Vidyadhari. Santanka garland was scenting the entire forest with its fragrance. Then Maharishi Durvasa ji saw that beautiful garland and asked for it from that Vidyadhar Sundari. On his request, Vidyadhari bowed to him respectfully and gave him the garland. Sage Durvasa took it and put it around his neck and started wandering on the earth. At the same time, he saw Indra dev coming with the deities mounted on the intoxicate Airavata. Seeing them, sage Durvasa took off the garland from his neck and threw it on Devraj Indra. Devraj Indra (who was full of ego) took the garland and instead of wearing it around his neck, he put it on the head of his Elephant Airavat. That intoxicated elephant also got attracted by its smell and smelled it with its trunk and threw it on the earth. Seeing this, the great sage Lord Durvasa became very angry and said angrily to Devraj Indra - Hey Indra! You are very arrogant; you did not respect the garland given by me nor did you keep it around your neck. Oh fool, you did not understand the importance of the garland given by me and you threw that divine garland on the earth. Because of which you have become arrogant, I curse you that your Triloki glory will be destroyed and your Tribhuvan will also end soon.
Due to this curse of sage Durvasa, Indra's Trilok becoming inferior, and the entire glory was destroyed. When the demons came to know about the curse of Maharishi Durvasa, they attacked Indra Lok. Due to the effect of the curse, the Deities were defeated and after saving their lives, they reached Brahma Ji by leading Agni Devta. He praised Lord Brahma.
Pleased with the praise of the deities, Lord Brahma said that only Lord Lakshmipati Lord Vishnu can solve this problem. Hearing the words of Lord Brahma, all the deities including Indra went to Lord Vishnu. All the deities including Brahma started praising Shri Hari to please him.
Pleased with the prayers of the deities, Shri Hari said – Hey! Your power has weakened due to the curse of sage Durvasa. In such a situation, instead of fighting with the demons, you should make a treaty with them. Because when a storm comes, running towards the storm with wide eyes is not wiseness, it is foolishness. Wise people should sit quietly when a storm comes, close their eyes and wait for the storm to pass. This time is like a storm for you all. Fighting an armed man unarmed is not wise, it is suicide. I will definitely increase your power, but for this you will have to churn the ocean with the demons. In this way the churning of the ocean began and during this churning, Goddess Lakshmi appeared.
By worshiping Goddess Lakshmi, a person becomes free from all kinds of sorrows and he never feels the lack of wealth, glory and mental peace.
