Jhulelal Jayanti is a sacred festival celebrated by the Sindhi community. Every year, it is observed on the second day of the Shukla Paksha in the month of Chaitra. On this day, the Sindhi community worships Saint Jhulelal. Let us learn when and where Saint Jhulelal was born and which deity he is worshipped as.
He was born in Nasarpur village on the second day of Shukla Paksha of Chaitra month in Vikram Samvat 1007 from the womb of Thakur Ratan Rai's wife Devaki. He is considered to be the incarnation of Varun Dev i.e., Water God. His birthday started to be celebrated as Jhulelal Jayanti. Saint Jhulelal is the worshiped deity of Sindhi who is called 'Ishtadev'. He is worshiped as Varun Dev, Sea God, God of divine vision and Water God.

Chaitra month is called 'Chait' in Sindhi community and the moon is called 'Chand'. Therefore, the second day of Shukla Paksha of Chaitra month is also celebrated as 'Chetichand' because moon sighting also occurs on this day.
Story
1040 years ago, Muslim king Mirkh Badshah ruled a place called Sindh. He was very cruel. He wanted to force his subjects to accept Islam. He used to torture his subjects a lot. The atrocities committed by him were very unbearable, who can describe his atrocities? The people of Sindh society continued to tolerate his mischievousness, when there was no way to escape from his atrocities, many people gave up their lives there, many people converted to his religion to escape his misrule. Some people of the societies settled on the seashore in the Indus Valley Civilization. There he endured hardships for 40 days and performed rituals and worshiped Lord Varun. Varun Dev became happy and appeared sitting on a male fish in the same sea and then a voice came from the sky that to end the atrocities of King Mirkh, I Varun Dev himself will be born from the womb of Devaki, the wife of Thakur Ratan Rai of Naraspur.
When King Mirkh heard this, he sent many soldiers to kill that child. Around Jhulelal Ji's palace, flames were visible to Mirakh Badshah's soldiers.
Then the soldiers sent by him told him that he was not an ordinary child. He is a miraculous child with divine light, adorned with all ornaments and a long beard. Hearing this, Mirkh Badshah himself went to Saint Jhulelal ji and arrested him and put him in jail. The people of Sindh community were imprisoned in jail. Jhulelal ji freed the entire people from prison and went near the Indus Valley and built a palace with Maya. When King Mirkh saw that all the imprisoned subjects had escaped. Then he reached Jhulelal’s palace to kill him. Then Jhulelal ordered Agni Dev and Vayu Dev to destroy the palace of Mirkh Raj Badshah. Seeing his palace burning in the fire, Mirkh Raj started crying. The king left his cruelty and held his feet and started apologizing for the sins he had committed. Humanity had awakened in his heart. He became the biggest devotee of Jhulelal ji. Whenever sin and atrocities increase and when someone tries to destroy religion, God incarnates in some form or the other.

Worship Method
Get up in the morning and take a bath and become pure. Then wear clean clothes. After that, spread a red cloth on the stool and sprinkle Ganga water on it and purify it. Install Saint Jhulelal ji at the stool. Dress them in clean clothes, apply sandalwood tilak and garland them with flowers. Place it on a slightly intact stool and place a pot filled with water on top of it. Tie a thread or kalewa on the mouth of the Kalash and make a Swastika on it. Put water, basil leaf and a coin in the urn and cover it. Then offer fruits, flowers, sandalwood, coconut, naivedya etc. to Jhulelal ji. After the Kalash is installed, light a flame of ghee on the Kalash and tell your wish to Jhulelal ji, then perform aarti for his happiness. So even after installing it at home, you can worship Jhulelal Ji and please him. Sindhi people of India and Pakistan celebrate Jhulelal Jayanti with great pomp. The worship methods of different places are also different. At many places, they place the statue of Jhulelal above their heads and perform their folk dance and sing their folk songs. Sweet rice, salty food etc. are distributed as Prasad. By worshiping them, all the problems related to food and water are solved. The water problem is also a very serious problem. Life is not possible without water.
Earlier the Sindhi community used to travel across the seas and do business. Due to which he had to face many difficulties in the sea journey. Therefore, the Sindhis living on the seacoast used to worship Lord Varun Dev to make their journey successful and to remove all the troubles. Jhulelal ji is considered to be the incarnation of Varun Dev, hence Sindhi people worship Jhulelal ji in the form of Varun Dev.
