Mata Sita, daughter of King Janak, appeared on the Ashtami Tithi of Krishna Paksha of Phalgun month. Since then, the birth of Janaki Mata is celebr ated as Janaki Jayanti.
Mata Sita was the daughter of King Janak, hence she is also called Janaki. Thus, celebrating this day as Janaki Jayanti means that the birth anniversary of Mata Sita is remembered on this day.
It is also known as Sita Ashtami in many places and people celebrate it with special religious events and pujas.
On the day of Janaki Jayanti, married women keep a fast for the long life of their husbands. Apart from this, unmarried girls wish to get their desired groom by fasting.
On this festival day, devotees remain engaged in bhajan, kirtan, recitation and worship of Shri Ram and Mata Sita. Specially for the worship of Mother Goddess Sita, flowers, extracts, incense, lamps, naivedya, aarti, garlands, and sheets are dedicated to her. Apart from this, stories are also recited on the day of Janaki Jayanti, which describe the life story of Mother Sita and her qualities of bravery and purity.
Worship method of Janaki Jayanti:
Clean the place of worship and make it sacred. Set up a small temple or prepare a seat for worship. Install an idol, statue, or picture of Sita Mata. For worship, offer flowers, incense, lamp, naivedya, incense sticks and garlands to Mother Sita. Chant mantras, such as "Om Sitaayai Namah" or other Sita Mata mantras. You can also recite Sita Chalisa and Sita Stotram. Salute Mata Sita and seek her blessings. Perform aarti, provide remedies, and distribute puja prasad. On this day, listen to the story of Janaki Jayanti and think about the grace and inspiration of Mata Sita.
Story :
Once upon a time. Only farmers lived in the entire city of Mithila city, their only occupation was farming. All the farmers were doing farming and earning their living, but time passed and one day suddenly a crisis struck Mithila city, that is, there was a famine. All the fields dried up. Not a drop of rain was visible anywhere. Janak ji was the king of Mithila city. He was also called Mithila King. The entire people, suffering from famine, went to the court of King Janak. The king shared the concerns of the people and decided to perform the yagya. Then the Brahmins said that if you plough the field like a farmer, Lord Indra will definitely be pleased, and it will rain. For the happiness of his people, King Janak went to the fields with his wife and all the people and started ploughing. According to Padmapuran, when King Janak was ploughing, suddenly his plough got stuck in the ground and a beautiful girl appeared from the front of the plough, who was Lakshmi in person. Seeing that Vedamayi girl, the queen took her in her lap and her motherly love overflowed. Seeing this, King Janak accepted her as his daughter. Being the daughter of King Janak, that daughter was named Janaki. The king got his daughter from the land while ploughing, hence she was named Sita. Sita has one meaning - the line formed when the plough. Description of her life is found in Ramayana.
Sita ji actually had countless qualities. She incorporated qualities like self-respect, restraint, intelligence, fearlessness, compassion, kindness, forgiveness, love, and dignity in her personality. Sita ji was truly incomparable, and her talent was the epitome of human perfection.
Janaki Jayanti is an important and ideal festival for the devotees, which should be celebrated with reverence and devotion. Through this festival, the blessings of Mata Sita are showered, and her blessings are received, and happiness, peace and prosperity come in life.
