Baba Saheb Ambedkar is one of those great people whose entire life was spent in the struggle to establish high human values. Baba Saheb faced many struggles for human welfare and upliftment of society. Baba Saheb sacrificed his entire life for the upliftment of the society and to establish law and order for equality and human welfare in the society. Baba Saheb has provided weapons of equality and justice to the society for the welfare of our society in the form of Constitution. Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar has played various roles for the upliftment of the society as a jurist, economist, politician, and social reformer. In these roles, he protested against social discrimination several times and also fought prominently for the rights and upliftment of women and labourers. To remember and pay respect to the struggle and sacrifice of Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar, the great man who created the Constitution and provided human rights to the society, his birthday is celebrated as Ambedkar Jayanti.

To increase his respect, his birthday is also celebrated as 'Equality Day' and 'Knowledge Day' because he has struggled a lot to provide the right to equality in the society. He is lovingly addressed today as Baba Saheb and Bhim.

Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar was born on 14 April 1891 in Ambedkar Nagar of Indore district located in Madhya Pradesh, India. Which is also known by the name Mahu. His father's name was Ramji Rao and mother's name was Bhima Bai. There were 13 brothers and sisters in his family. But among them only 2 brothers and 4 sisters survived. He was the 14th child of his mother. His brothers' names were Balram and Anand Rao and sisters' names were Manjula, Tulsi, Ganga Bai, Rama Bai. His father worked as a Subedar in the British Army. When he was only 2 years old his father retired from his job. When he turned 6 years old, his mother died. His primary education started from Mumbai. At the age of just 15, he was married to 9-year-old Rama Bai Ambedkar in 1906. Rama Bai died in 1938. Due to which his second marriage took place with Savita Ambedkar in 1948.

Academic life

Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar passed his matriculation examination in 1907 from a government high school at Elphinstone Road, Mumbai. In 1912 he received a bachelor's degree in political and economics from the University of Bombay. He completed M.A. from Colombia and Ph.D. After this he did M.Sc., D.Sc. from London School of Economics. Thus, he had 32 degrees and had knowledge of 9 languages.

Contribution of Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar

Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar demanded equality and justice in the society for the helpless and needy people of the Indian society and he took many steps for social and economic reform in the Indian society. He sought to reform Indian society through socialism, linguistic structure, and social justice.

Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar's birth anniversary is celebrated across India with celebrations, and social-reform programs, conferences, and social awareness efforts take place in various provinces. This day is an important day to remember the contribution of Dr. Ambedkar and promote his ideas which are considered important in the Indian society.

He was the chairman of Drafting Committee of Constitution. That is why he is also called the creator of the Constitution. He completed the Constitution and dedicated it to the nation on 26 November 1949 in 2 years, 11 months, and 18 days. The Constitution was implemented on 26 January 1950.

He slept on the night of 06 December 1956 and due to diabetes, he left his body in his sleep. Ambedkar Jayanti is celebrated to honour him and remember the work done by him for the nation and society.
