According to Narad Purana, Chaturthi of Krishna Paksha of Kartik month has been described as special worship. This date has been described as Karka Chaturthi or Karwa Chauth fast. Only women can observe this fast. Women keep this fast for the long life of their husbands. According to Narad Purana, it is said that after worshiping Lord Ganesha on this day, when the moon rises at night, it is necessary to worship the moon ritually and offer Arghya (water) to it , because without seeing the moon on this day, the wishes of the fast is not achieved, Fasting women are advised to perform the puja as per their traditional method. Story
There was a moneylender, he had seven sons and one daughter. Everyone was married. On the Chaturthi of Krishna Paksha of Kartik month, all the daughters-in-law of the moneylender were observing the fast of Karwa Chauth. The newly married daughter of a moneylender had also observed a fast on Karwa Chauth . Karwa Chauth fast was the first time for the moneylender's daughter, so she tolerated hunger and thirst the whole day, but by evening she became distraught with hunger and thirst and fainted. All the brothers loved their only sister very much. When they saw her in an unconscious state, all the brothers were extremely disturbed to see the condition of their sister. The youngest son of the moneylender, who loved his sister very much, climbed a banyan tree to save his sister's life and from there he placed a lamp in a sieve and made it look like the moon. Seeing this, all the other brothers told their sister that the moon has come out. Following the advice of their brothers, the moneylender's daughter put the fire-shaped lamp on the sieve for the moon and offered water to the moon and had food. Lord Ganesha became unhappy due to the breaking of the fast. When she reached home, her husband became very ill, all the money of the house was spent on the disease. In this way the husband fell ill and the whole house became moneyless. Then she discovered the reason for her downfall. She felt very remorseful after knowing about the breaking of the fast. After this she started worshiping Lord Ganesha methodically. Lord Ganesha was pleased with her ritualistic and deceitless worship. Lord Ganesha granted health to her husband and filled her house with wealth. Whoever worships Lord Ganesha on the day of Chaturthi with full devotion. So Lord Ganesha grants him a healthy body and the blessings of Lord Ganesha always remain in the worshiper's house. On this day, the fast is completed only after seeing the moon and offering Arghya to it, otherwise the woman does not get the result of the fast. Worshiping the Moon on this day brings happiness and peace in the house.
