Masi Magam
Masi Magham, also known as Masi Makam, is one of the most significant and auspicious festivals in Sanatan Dharma. It is celebrated with great enthusiasm and joy in the month of Masi according to the Tamil calendar, which corresponds to February-March in the Gregorian calendar. Masi Magham occurs once a year, but when Jupiter enters the Singh Nakshatra (Leo constellation) every twelve years, the festival is celebrated as Maha Magham.
Rituals of Maasi Magham: -
On Masi Magham, the deities' idols, particularly those of Lord Vishnu and Lord Shiva, are taken in a grand procession from temples to nearby water bodies such as ponds, lakes, or seashores for ceremonial bathing. Devotees accompanying the procession take a dip in the water bodies with the belief that it will cleanse them of all their sins. This festival symbolizes the process of religious purification for attaining liberation, which people observe to rid themselves of their sins. Bathing in sacred rivers or the sea during the festival is considered auspicious for attaining liberation. Devotees gather near the seashore early in the morning for prayers and conduct various rituals and ceremonies with great pomp and sanctity. Prominent among these rituals are the Gaja Puja for elephants and Ashwa Puja for horses.
The story of Maasi Magham: -
In the town of Tiruvannamalai, there was a king named Vallala, who was a devout worshiper of Lord Shiva. The king had no children, so he prayed to Lord Shiva to perform his last rites upon his death. The king passed away on the day of Masi Magham, and as promised, Lord Shiva performed his last rites and granted him liberation. Additionally, it was declared that anyone who bathes in the sea during Masi Magham would attain "liberation." It is believed that every year, Lord Shiva comes to the seashore to perform the last rites of King Vallala.

On the auspicious day of Masi Magham, devotees who perform worship and rituals with devotion and full dedication receive happiness, prosperity, and the blessings of their ancestors. Additionally, all negative energies in their lives are dispelled.
