Akshaya Tritiya
Akshaya Tritiya Worship Procedure and Significance
In the Matsya Purana, Lord Shiva explained to Sage Narada the procedure and significance of Akshaya Tritiya-vrat as follows:
Lord Shiva said, 'Narada! Akshaya Tritiya fulfills all desires. On this day, by giving charity, performing havan (fire ritual), and chanting mantras, everything becomes imperishable. Those who observe fasting on the third day of the bright half of the Vaishakha month obtain the fruits of all their noble deeds. If this day coincides with the Kritika Nakshatra, it is considered especially auspicious. Men and women who observe this fast have children endowed with all good qualities. On Akshaya Tritiya, people should take a bath with sanctified water, offer unbroken rice grains (akshata) to the deity of Lord Madhusudana Vishnu, and also offer akshata to pure-hearted Brahmins. Those who do this become recipients of imperishable rewards.
General worship procedure
According to the general procedure, wake up before sunrise, take a bath, and wear clean yellow clothing. Then, place the idols of Lord Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi and perform a ritualistic bath with Ganga water. On Akshaya Tritiya, the worship and adoration of Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Vishnu take place. Red flowers are offered to Goddess Lakshmi, and lotus flowers are offered to Lord Vishnu. Tulsi leaves, yellow flowers, fruits, and other offerings are made to the deity. Afterward, perform the ritual of incense, light a lamp, and recite Vishnu Sahasranama or Vishnu Chalisa. Then, fill a brass vessel with Ganga water, decorate it with mango leaves, and make a swastika symbol. Place it in front of the deities and offer aarati to Lord Vishnu. If possible, give charity as well.
